The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce is the voice of business in the community. A membership in the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce is so much more than a piece of paper. Your support is an investment in the cooperation and abilities of the people in the community with whom you can join hands with to accomplish the goals you cannot achieve on your own. The chamber, through its staff, board of directors and its membership, is a conduit to the lawmakers of the various levels of government. Strategies to make our community a progressive place to operate and do business are consistently being put before government to the benefit of chamber members. Clearly, the stronger the membership in the chamber, the more positive the reaction will be from the powers that be. More members equals more power.

Strong Board of Directors

Led by a strong board of directors, the AVCoC has an excellent working relationship with the Port Alberni City Council, Regional Board, our MLA and MP. It is through these solid relationships that the chamber works for the betterment of the business people and the community in general.

As a long time member in good standing of the BC Chamber of Commerce, your local chamber has access to an array of membership benefits. Discount programs for Visa, MasterCard and Interac are made available to members. Discount telephone, oil and gas programs are accessible. Payroll and staff benefit programs are also very popular. The purchasing power the BC Chamber of Commerce has through its thousands of local chamber members allows for discounts not readily available to independents. In addition, it’s impressive just how many BC Chamber policies are adopted, in whole or in part, by the governments of the day.

Networking Opportunities

One of the most valuable exercises business people partake in is networking. The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce works hard to facilitate networking with a monthly luncheon, where all attendees are invited to introduce themselves and their product. Special guest speakers of interest to the community are featured regularly.

Weekly Updates

Each Friday your chamber publishes the “Week at a Glance” (WAG) newsletter on the website. This features upcoming events and meetings. The Executive Director’s editorial, "From the Manager’s Desk" is also included in the WAG.

Promotional Services

The chamber also operates the Visitor Centre, processing close to 50-thousand enquiries per year - enquiries about travel destinations, events, potential investment and community services. Members are given the opportunity to display brochures and business cards at the Visitor Centre. Members with promotional video clips can be featured on a wide screen, high definition television located behind the counter for all the visitors to see.

Community Events

Organizing events is what Port Alberni is well known for. We are the only BC community to host all four provincial games. The chamber takes pride in helping to promote these events and stage some of our own, such as: the Christmas Sailpast, the Yuletide Light Up the Night Contest, Business Excellence Awards Dinner and the annual Fantasy Auction…all helping to improve the economy and better the community.
